This was the declaration given by...

For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth.
John 18:37.

This was the declaration given by the accused in what must have been the most unjust trial in world history. An extremely modest Man stood before the Roman governor Pilate: Jesus Christ. The accusation brought against Him was intended to create the impression that He was an enemy of the state. Therefore the governor had to examine the matter.

The interrogation proceeded strangely: the accusations could not be upheld at all. The supreme judge of the land established that Jesus was innocent. Nevertheless He was condemned to death!

In the course of the investigation the subject of "truth" was raised. Jesus Christ claimed that He was the One born to enter the world in order to fulfil a particular mission. Can anyone make such a claim? What did He mean by it? He was indeed the eternal Son of God, sent into the world with the purpose of testifying to the truth. Not just at that moment before Pilate, but always and in all things.

Christ is the perfect witness of the truth, i.e. the truth about Himself, His mission, about mankind, heaven and hell, and about God and His righteous claims on all of us. In a word: He is God Himself, having appeared as Man. Through His Person and His sayings He who is the truth shed true light on everything.

Pilate dismissed Jesus' claim by remarking, "What is truth?" The answer to his question did not interest him. However, the day will come for everyone when God's truth cannot be simply by-passed.

"Grace and truth came through Jesus Christ" (John 1:17).

Today's reading: Jeremiah 36:16-32 · Romans 8:12-17

THE GREAT DELIVERER

God is great but He humbles Himself to the level of His children to deliver them. The one who will deliver you must be stronger than the enemy holding you captive. The reason He is able to deliver is because He is stronger than all your enemies put together. This is why in

NO FOOD FOR THE LAZY MAN

Laziness is not a Christian virtue in any way. Our Lord Jesus Christ made this clear by His lifestyle of hard work while here on earth. A lifestyle of laziness is outrightly rejected in Scriptures typified by today's Bible reading. It is amazing that some people are still expecting God to rain manna on earth! It does...More
