“What is my life worth...

Who is the man who desires life?
Psalm 34:12.

"What is my life worth? Is it worth living?" Such questions are rarely spoken aloud, yet almost everyone considers them now and again. There are people who agree with the French writer Albert Camus' opinion: "Everyone knows that life is not worth living." Others hold the view of the composer Franz Lehar. A character in on one of his operettas sings, "Friends, life is worth living." Two contradictory statements, but only one of them could ever be right.

It does sometimes seem that everything is senseless. When plans fail to materialise, when friends fall away, when the illness or death of a dear one shatters my joy, when there is no-one who takes an interest in me. What does life offer me?

There is One who is interested in the discouraged. For God we are not just one lost in the crowd. He sees each one of us, wishing us happiness and a life in harmony with Himself, our Creator. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to earth and to the cross, thereby showing what we mean to Him. He wishes to grant us sense and an aim in our life.

A man once wrote a letter from his imprisonment in Rome. It was the apostle Paul, who had been accused by his compatriots and deserted by most of his friends. How did he feel about it, and what did he write? Paul wrote to the Christian church in Philippi about joy, joy in Jesus Christ - under those circumstances truly amazing! Only someone who has found His life's purpose and strength in Christ can speak like that!

"Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!" (Philippians 4:4).

Today's reading: Jeremiah 39:1-18 · Romans 9:1-13

FALSE PROPHETS AND THEIR PROPHECIES-FOOLISH PROPHETS

The word of Jehovah came unto me, saying: Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel that prophesy, and say unto them that prophesy out of their own heart, Hear ye the word of Jehovah. Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow after their own spirit, and have seen nothing!...More

EVERYONE NEEDS A MIRACLE

Some years ago, I was invited to be the guest speaker at a garden party in an exclusive, highbrow residential area. Because I arrived at the venue quite early, I was made to sit for a while in the house of my host. The house was an exquisite parade of wealth and splendour. I had never seen such brazen display of...More

FOR CHRIST'S SAKE DON'T!

A negative change is generally abhorred by men. Everyone craves progress. We always desire to keep ascending the ladder of success. No one wants to make a u-turn in the journey of greatness. The greatest journey whose end has the greatest significance is the journey to Heaven. This journey is only made in Jesus...More
