September 30, 2015 Today's reading: 1 Corinthians 12 And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. Mark 4:21 The bed Last week, the "bushel" reminded us that the light of our witness for the Lord can be completely covered over by the occupations of daily life. But our natural indolence and a love of comfort can lead to the same effect. Perhaps the Lord has laid a certain service on our heart that we should fulfil but we never get round to undertaking it. Maybe there have been "great resolves of heart", as there were among the divisions of Reuben , but nothing happens. This is not surprising if one cannot exert oneself because of our desire for peace and an easy life take precedence over the strenuous demands of the battlefield. What excuses we find! Our day's work can be so strenuous. The weather so cold and damp, or the air in our meeting-places so oppressive, people can be so ungrateful and even repulsive, while dealing with them is so tiring! Suddenly the lamp has disappeared under the bed. Only a dim shimmer of light betrays its existence - but it is of no use to anyone. Hasn't our lamp, yours and mine, occasionally stood under a bushel or the bed, instead of shining brightly for our Lord to the benefit of our neighbourhood? Hasn't its light been lacking in our family circle, in our fellowship and in our contact with the world? God's Word calls on us to "Walk as children of light. Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light" (Ephesians 5:8-14). |

Our God is a mobile God. He comes down to deliver His own. As high as God is and even though He has His throne in Heaven, yet He condescends to meet the needs of His children on earth (Isaiah...More |
Open Heavens for Monday, February 17, 2014 by Pastor E.A Adeboye DIVINE CHAMPION 2 Yesterday we discovered that our Lord Jesus Christ is the number one champion and that He makes His people champions. We also saw that a divine champion is a person raised up and supported by God. One attribute of a champion is strength. The divine champion is one who receives divine strengthening....More |
Open Heavens for Sunday, January 25, 2015 by Pastor E.A Adeboye EX-CHAMPION? Although it is an unpleasant experience to be a defeated contender, becoming an ex-champion is a much more grievous experience. When you are not yet a champion, only a few people pay attention to you. But by the time you become a champion, you will be on the radar of many people, including your enemies. A champion has...More |
