From a hovel to the palace

We know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
2 Corinthians 5:1.

From a hovel to the palace
The apostle Paul compares our body with a wretched hovel. So long as we are young and healthy, this contrast appears to us to be unsuitable. However, when an illness plagues us or the troubles of old age make themselves felt, we notice readily how weak and frail our body is. As the years go by it resembles a dilapidated shack.

Although we are waiting for the Lord Jesus at the rapture, it may be that we are called home before He comes for His redeemed. This hut of ours is destroyed by death. The body that belongs to the first creation and is subject to the consequences of the fall is laid in a grave where it decomposes.

But we have a glorious hope. We know that we have a wonderful building from God. At the rapture, when the Lord Jesus comes, those who have departed will be raised in a new body, and the redeemed who are still alive will be changed. Every believer who is taken to heaven will have a new body which can be likened to a palace. Three things characterise it:

This body is "not made with hands". It is spiritual and no longer belongs to the first creation.

It is called an "eternal" house, not being subject to transience.

The new body is a house "in the heavens". As it bears heavenly characteristics, we shall be fit and able to dwell there.

Today's reading: Lamentations 2:1-10 · Psalms 43:1-5

JESUS IN YOUR BOAT

No doubt, life in a sense is like the sea. A characteristic of the sea is that storms of varying degrees arise, putting the lives of those sailing on it in jeopardy of being drowned. In Jesus' Name, the storms of life will not be able to drown you, your family and your business. While literal storms are natural...More
