October 3, 2015 Today's reading: 1 Corinthians 14:21-40 I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah. Psalm 32:5 In 1989, when "glasnost" and "perestroika" (openness and reform) affected the policy of the then Soviet Union, an article appeared in a Moscow newspaper written by the influential author, Daniel Granin. The subject was the relationship between the Russian and the German nation after the sorrowful and the troublesome experiences of the Second World War. Granin wrote the following: "We should not forget but forgive, even if forgiveness is very difficult. We irreligious people have forgotten what forgiveness is; without it communal life is not possible." Has the world since learned that living together in peace is impossible without the ability to apologise and forgive? What is interesting is that Granin indicates the difficulty people have in forgiving when they have no "religion". Let us rather say: when they have no faith that knows and testifies God's forgiveness. King David, the writer of today's verse from the psalms, obtained forgiveness for his sin when he confessed it sincerely to God. David often spoke of his sons and God's forgiveness; so it is not surprising that his entire life was characterised by the readiness to forgive others, even his worst enemies. Whoever has experienced God's forgiveness is able to truly forgive others. This is what Paul meant when he wrote: "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you" (Ephesians 5:32). |

Open Heavens for Sunday, March 2, 2014 by Pastor E.A Adeboye NEGATIVE LIVING Life comprises of positive and negative elements. As a matter of necessity, it is not good for someone to opt for negative living. The fact that Jesus Christ was destined to die for the sin of the whole world does not exonerate Judas Iscariot from the evil that led him to the idea of betraying the King of Glory....More |
