Foretelling Christ

You search the scriptures, and these are they which testify of me.
John 5:39.

Foretelling Christ
Even in ancient times people believed that great events were foreshadowed. This applies equally to the coming of the Lord Jesus. The prophetic indications of Christ in the Old Testament are manifold and impressive. They announce Him as a great Person.

In Isaiah 7:14 we read of His birth: "Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." As Matthew 1:23 shows, this prophecy refers unmistakably to the Lord Jesus. The name Immanuel means "God with us". In Isaiah 9:6 we then discover that the Son of the virgin is God's gift to mankind: "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be upon his shoulder. And his name will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." The name of the coming liberator comprises fivefold glories:

"Wonderful": As a Person He is unique, exceeding all human knowledge.

"Counsellor": Christ is distinguished from all others by His wisdom, power and authority.

"Mighty God": This title reveals that the Son of the virgin is God in His own Person.

"Everlasting Father": Everything originates in Him, even the aeon of eternity.

"Prince of Peace": He alone is in a position to bring about peace on a righteous basis.

Today's reading: Leviticus 18:1-30 · Psalms 66:8-20

Every apartment or compartment with a lock has its key. It takes a key to open the gate of a house and several keys to enter the house its rooms. If you have fridge, car or wardrobe, you will equally have their keys. From the foregoing therefore, it is apparent that several good things with value have their...More
