When someone finds himself in...

He who heeds counsel is wise.
Proverbs 12:15.

When someone finds himself in a totally new situation, he might well ask a more experienced person for advice. It is natural when children seek advice from their parents. If the relationship in the family is good, the children will readily consider and accept their parents' advice. In later life there are certain experts whom we ask for advice, e.g. a doctor. If we trust him, we shall heed what he tells us.

If we really knew that there is someone who can assess every situation in our life correctly and knew the right decision, wouldn't we go to him? Of course, we know that the Lord Jesus can do so. He knows us perfectly, better than we ourselves do. He also knows the consequences of any decision that we might make, and therefore which one would be right. One of His names in Isaiah 9:5 is "Counsellor". In Psalm 32:8 He assures the believer: "I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will guide you with my eye."

He is ever ready to advise us. But how He answers us is for Him to decide. He can do so through His Word, or by directing our thoughts, or even through the circumstances of other Christians' lives.

Do I want His advice today? Do I ask Him for it explicitly in prayer? Have I the patience to wait until He answers? And do I then follow His directions? The Word of God designates those who listen to advice, particularly God's counsel, as "wise".

"With him are wisdom and strength, he has counsel and understanding" (Job 12:13).

Today's reading: Joshua 11:1-11 · 1 Corinthians 10:1-13

Jesus says to her, Mary. She, turning around, says to Him in Hebrew, Rabboni, which means Teacher. Jesus says to her, Touch Me not, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, I ascend to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.

We have not a high priest not able to sympathize with our infirmities, but tempted in all things in like manner, sin apart.

PROVOKING POSITIVE CHANGE

Change is one event that is constant in life. Change denotes movement from one state to another. There are two categories of change: positive and negative. Due to the fact that change can either be positive or negative, Africans would say: "Change is good for the poor but bad for the rich". Change in life is...More
