The Man Christ Jesus

We do not have a high priest who cannot sympathise with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
Hebrews 4:15.

The Man Christ Jesus
The Son of God became true Man, just like ourselves. How this fact emphasises His goodness and sympathy! Yet there are people who exploit this very truth to propagate false doctrine, namely that He also took on our sinful nature and was able to sin. It is therefore essential that we keep closely to the clear teaching of Holy Scripture in this respect.

The apostles Peter, Paul and John all express the same teaching on this subject, differing only in what they stress, and in harmony with their ministry and their own personality.

Peter was a man of action: he presents Christ as an example for the believer's walk and describes the One "who did no sin." The Lord Jesus never committed a sin. Every true Christian accepts this as an irrefutable fact. Not even one of His opponents could convict Him of sin. And Pilate confirmed His innocence three times (cf. 1 Peter 2:22; John 8:46; Luke 23:4.15.22).

Paul, on the other hand, was a thinker and well versed in Scripture. His testimony of Christ is: "who knew no sin" (2 Corinthians 5:21). This conclusion goes further than Peter's statement. It shows that all Christ's thoughts and motives were sinless without exception.

Finally we have John, who of the twelve apostles knew the Lord most intimately. He was led to write: "In him there is no sin"(1 John 3:5). This is even more profound than doing no sin or knowing no sin. He was the true meal offering, in which any trace of leaven was lacking (cf. Leviticus 2:11).

Today's reading: Joshua 24:16-33 · 1 Corinthians 16:10-24
