“With God all things are possible”...

They (the disciples) were greatly astonished, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved? But Jesus looked at them and said, With men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible.
Mark 10:26.27.

"With God all things are possible" does not mean that anything can happen with God, but that God can achieve His objective by any means, or, God is omnipotent, able to do everything.

A rich young man had spoken to the Lord Jesus about spiritual things. Then he went away, because he cherished his wealth more than the truth. With sadness the Lord watched him go and said with heartfelt love, "How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!" (v. 23).

The disciples were dismayed at that. They harboured the traditional idea that a rich person was blessed by God because he led a good life. The Lord made it clear that one should not reach such a conclusion. The disciples were surprised: they knew that everyone needs to be saved, but wrongly assumed that a rich person was more privileged.

Does it sound like an insult to assert that everyone needs to be saved? Doesn't God accept us as we are? God loves us, and we can come to Him as we are. How could we otherwise? But as we are, we are not fit for God's presence or His kingdom. He wishes to change us radically, and for this reason Jesus had to suffer and die.

That young man was rich. Perhaps you are not so well off financially, but you are friendly, hard-working and have other qualities. None of them will open the door to the kingdom of God. There is only one way to enter: God's way by faith in Jesus Christ. Come to Him, with whom all things are possible!

Today's reading: Judges 7:9-25 · 2 Corinthians 7:10-16

GOD PROMOTES

When God set out to deliver the children of Israel from Egypt, it was to take them out of captivity and bondage and to lift them up. God has come to take you out of your current location in the miry clay to your promised land - a land flowing with milk and honey. This simply tells us that the God of Abraham, Isaac...More

TRAIN UP YOUR CHILD 1

One major undoing of modern civilized society is an abounding generation of untrained children. This trend did not just start, but has been on for some time now. The result is that many untrained children of few years back have become parents themselves. It is the multiplier effect of their lack of proper home...More

Hebrews 11:24-28

Author Zora Neale Hurston wrote a book titled Moses, Man of the Mountain. Published in 1939, it retells the story of Moses and the Exodus. Hurston altered details of the story for her own purposes, weaving in allusions to African American history, folklore, and song. She reflected...More
