The LORD brought about a great...

There was a piece of ground full of barley. So the people fled from the Philistines. But they stationed themselves in the middle of that field, defended it and killed the Philistines. So the LORD brought about a great victory.
1 Chronicles 11:13.14.

The LORD brought about a great victory - wonderful news! How we would rejoice today, if we experienced it! But how did it begin? With a section of a field full of barley!

Eleazer and David were engaged in war with the Philistines; the battle fluctuated, then the people fled. Did these two warriors surrender? Far from it! They stood firmly on that piece of ground full of barley, saved it and defeated the Philistines. The LORD won the day.

Was there no better place to fight? Or was the field of barley strategically so important? No, but it was a field of barley, not stubble. For Eleazer and David that was reason enough to defend it. And the LORD blessed their exertions.

Does the Lord find in you and me such persons who are sufficiently courageous and strong in the faith to stand up for His interests? Who wouldn't consider a field of barley too insignificant to defend it for God and His people? Think of your contribution to the work of God and His people, even if it seems slight in your opinion. Every service in the families of God's children and in the gatherings of the church that gives and maintains scriptural, spiritual nourishment for the believers is meant.

Each of us has his field of barley worth defending. It is precious in God's sight, and therefore for us, too. God wishes to bring about "a great victory" among the believers in their families and in the church. Just where is your field of barley?

Today's reading: Judges 14:1-13 · 2 Corinthians 12:11-15

LIFE IN ABUNDANCE 1

Under normal circumstances, no human being desires to be a nonentity. The various forces in the world however, are responsible for many people spending their entire life amounting to nothing and dwelling in the valley of not-well-to-do persons. The Almighty God Himself in making man did not intend for him to be a...More

A spiritual treasure had been entrusted to the apostle Paul that he wished to share with the Christians in Rome. It did not come from his own abilities or knowledge. What he wished to impart to them he had himself received...More
