October 11, 2015 Today's reading: Numbers 1:22-46 Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God. And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God. But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming. Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles. For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth. Acts 13:43-47 Thoughts on the Book of Acts (112) After the first sermon preached in the synagogue in Antioch, many clearly received the Lord Jesus Christ and God's grace by faith. Paul and Barnabas encouraged them to hold firmly to God's grace and rely on it absolutely. The message also stirred up the non-Jews in the city. A relationship with the one true God was being offered them, and with it the forgiveness of their sins, without their having to submit to Jewish laws and customs. What was for the heathens good news, hitherto unheard of, seemed to the Jews a curtailment of their privileges. They had to learn that all, Jews and Gentiles alike, needed God's grace and forgiveness, which were now being offered them. Quoting from the prophet Isaiah, Paul and Barnabas proved to them that the Messiah had been appointed from the beginning for salvation for all the nations. (to be continued next Sunday) |

Open Heavens for Thursday, December 5, 2013 by Pastor E.A Adeboye UNCOVERING EVIL The presence of the supernatural power of God in a church can take that church beyond limits. It can also uproot the presence of evil in the midst of Gods children. In Acts 5, a couple were uprooted through this. If we are going to sanitise the church, we need the Holy Spirit. Just as we need Him to heal, save...More |
