Have you ever heard the expression...

Unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

Repent therefore and be converted that your sins may be blotted out.

Matthew 18:3; Acts 3:19.

Have you ever heard the expression: "He had his Damascus hour"? What is meant is that someone has suddenly changed his attitude drastically. He accepts what he has denied or fought against - a kind of total surrender. This is possible in many spheres of everyday life. But in one aspect it is essential.

The first person to experience his "Damascus hour" was Saul of Tarsus, and that literally! In the first century A.D. he was a bitter enemy of the Christian faith. One day he was travelling to Damascus to persecute the Christians there. On the way, however, he had an unexpected encounter that was to change his entire life.

This Jesus, whom Saul was attacking so violently through the persecution of Christians, appeared before Him in a light from heaven "brighter than the sun" (Acts 26:13). Jesus stopped him in his tracks and asked, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?" Saul's question, "Who are you, Lord?" received the reply, "I am Jesus whom you are persecuting" (Acts 9:4.5). Saul realised that he was going the wrong way. From that day on he turned from being a relentless persecutor to an ardent preacher for Jesus Christ.

Like Saul, each of us needs his "Damascus hour", an encounter with Jesus Christ. Whatever characterised their life formerly, all can find the forgiveness of their sins and new life in Christ. The more we place ourselves under the guidance and protection of the Lord Jesus, the more that new life will unfold to bring forth more joy.

Today's reading: Ruth 2:1-23 · Psalms 78:1-16

DIVINE CHAMPION 2

Yesterday we discovered that our Lord Jesus Christ is the number one champion and that He makes His people champions. We also saw that a divine champion is a person raised up and supported by God.

One attribute of a champion is strength. The divine champion is one who receives divine strengthening....More
