Temptation and ourselves

Flee youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart

Do no be deceived: evil company corrupts good habits.

2 Timothy 2:22; 1 Corinthians 15:33.

Temptation and ourselves
In our day and age the concepts of good and evil are becoming relative. Christians are in danger of adopting the way of thinking and acting of society. Recognised moral standards and the teaching of the Bible are being left aside by many. It is up to believers to instil the teaching of the Word of God and the examples it gives, so as not to be drawn into this tendency.

Joseph, sold by his brothers and made a slave far away from home had become the chief steward in the household of Potiphar, his master. The latter noticed that all that he left in the responsibility of Joseph prospered, thanks to God's blessing Joseph. Alone in a foreign country, far from his family, young and handsome, Joseph was provoked every day by the seductive intentions of his master's wife who tried to inveigle him into adultery (Genesis 39).

How could he escape from the net tightening round him? He fled from that woman, as if from a serpent, in the same way as we run to the feet of Jesus, the Saviour, to be delivered and find security. Fleeing from evil in order to pursue what is good with Jesus is the only sensible way to overcome. If the Bible calls on us to remain pure for our good, it is still possible today. Let us heed Joseph's example and secret: it was by fleeing! Avoid all thoughts, reading matter, songs, videos, doubtful company that could induce us to temptation. Then pursue what is what is right. Let us ask God every day to help us to do so, and persist in reading His Word.

Today's reading: Ruth 4:1-22 · Psalms 78:34-53

THE HOLY SPIRIT

It is one thing to receive the anointing and another to keep growing on it. There are people who had the anointing, but today, everything has virtually ebbed out. It is possible to connect with the Holy Spirit and to continue to flow in the power of the anointing even at increasing levels. If this is your desire,...More

TOUCH NOT

In today's Bible reading, while David and his men were away, the Amalekites invaded Ziklag, defeated the city and set it on fire, after which they took members of their families - wives, sons and daughters as captives. When they returned and saw the situation of Ziklag, David and his men were really distressed,...More
