The gospel in the jungle (2)

The joy of the LORD is your strength.

Let all those rejoice who put their trust in you.

Nehemiah 8:10; Psalm 5:11.

The gospel in the jungle (2)
On the following days Ian and Alan visited other groups of Christians in the jungle. Alan was most impressed that they were so warmly received everywhere.

"I cannot understand how these poor inhabitants of the jungle can be so happy," he said on their way back.

Ian answered, "That comes from knowing Jesus Christ as their Saviour. They have the assurance that God has forgiven their sins and granted them eternal life."

On their long return trek through the jungle towards their homes they exchanged their thoughts on their experiences during the trip. In this way Alan came to know, step by step, the joy of having Jesus Christ as one's Saviour, the relief though knowing the forgiveness of sins and being able to look forward to eternal joy in heaven.

From being an opponent of missionary work he soon became a convinced preacher of the gospel.

What gives Christians the desire to spread the gospel?

They wish to obey the Lord's commandment to "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature" (Mark 16:15).
They are convinced that there is no other way to come to God than through personal faith in Jesus Christ (Acts 4:12).
They rejoice that the living God loves them, and want others to share that joy with them.

Today's reading: 2 Chronicles 19:1-11 · Revelation 6:9-17
