Our omniscient God

O LORD, you have searched me and known me. You know my sitting down and my rising up; you understand my thought afar off.
Psalm 139:1.2.

Our omniscient God
Mankind cannot fathom God's being. But God has revealed Himself in His Word, so that we can recognise something of His greatness and majesty. He presents Himself as the One who knows absolutely everything. The significance of this becomes clear only when we are aware of the contrast between His omniscience and our limited knowledge.

We know what we see. God sees what for man is imperceptible. His eyes "run to and fro throughout the whole earth" (2 Chronicles 16:9). He is not dependent on light in order to see.

We know what we have learnt. God never had to learn anything. He is "perfect in knowledge" (Job 36:4).

We know what we have heard. God knows the words that we have not uttered, including the motives, considerations and thoughts of our hearts (cf. 1 Corinthians 4:5).

We know about the past. God can see into the future. He knows what will happen tomorrow and how things will develop. His knowledge is not subject to time. Before the creation of the world He knew every detail of your life and mine.

We forget many things. God forgets nothing.

God's omniscience may frighten us when there are dubious things in our lives that we prefer to keep undiscovered. But His knowledge can also comfort us, since One stands over us who loves us and wishes to apply His unlimited knowledge for our benefit.

Our omniscient God is for us (cf. Romans 28:31).

Today's reading: 2 Chronicles 21:1-20 · Revelation 9:1-12

YOU CAN BE HIS WITNESS

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More

Don't Lose Sight

...when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem...
Luke 2:45

We might as well face it, strife has even infiltrated our church life. It is true enough that the Church is now the Church militant. But, as such, its warfare ought to be that of dedication to revealed truth and divine...More
