Offensive words (6)

He trusted in God; let him deliver him now if he will have him; for he said, I am the Son of God.
Matthew 27:43.

Offensive words (6)
The final contemptuous insult levelled at the Saviour on the cross must surely have hurt Him most, for it expressed sheer unbelief that He had come from God, His Father, to accomplish the work that brought Him the suffering He was now undergoing, and which had been foretold in Old Testament prophecy. The leaders of the people should have known better.

At the cross it was a matter of our need, settling the problem of our sins, not any trouble of Christ's that God had to deal with.

It was not a case of God delivering His Son at the cross, (which He could have done), but of delivering mankind from Satan's power and bondage.

Nor was it a case of affection or the divine relationship between Father and Son. That was proved when God called from heaven, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased" (2 Peter 1:17). At the cross God sought to restore the relationship with lost man.

It was to atone for our failings that Christ "endured the cross". And that demanded the death of an innocent Victim. Had He been preserved from the cross, there would be no salvation for mankind.

Israelites who rejected their Messiah rejected the salvation that God offered in His love and grace. What a responsibility they have for their folly! That offer is still there for all, not only Israelites, to take. Dear reader, don't let the chance pass by unheeded!

HOW PERSUADED?

In 2 Timothy 4:10, Demas - a co-labourer with Paul was floored by his love for the world. He became a victim of comfort. Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

Who am Ithat you have brought me this far?' 2 Samuel 7:18 (NIV 2011 Edition)
A MEMBER of parliament took his little daughter to visit Westminster Abbey. As she stood looking up at its magnificent columns, her father asked, What do you think, sweetheart?' With childlike candour she replied, I was...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
