Nevertheless continue to believe

But even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You.
John 11:22

Nevertheless continue to believe
John 11 tells the story of Lazarus. When he became ill, his two sisters Martha and Mary sent a message to the Lord Jesus saying, "Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick". They hoped that He would come to them immediately to make their brother well. But Lazarus died before Jesus arrived in Bethany.

Martha went to meet Him and immediately shared her disappointment with Him: "Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died." But then follow words that testify to her faith: "But even now I know ..." Although things had not turned out as Martha had imagined, she continued to trust in the Lord.

How beautiful when faith does not fail in a difficult situation in life. How good when, in a storm, the flame of our trust in God continues to shine, even though now and then it only resembles a small, flickering candle. It is the Lord who sustains our faith in a dark hour. He gives new courage so that we can confidently say: "But even now I know".

The Lord Jesus sustained Martha's faith with a promise she could hardly believe: "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die."

This glorious hope strengthens the trust of believers in the Son of God even to this day.

Today's reading: Numbers 3:1-26 · Matthew 3:1-12

Two discouraged disciples were reasoning among themselves...

Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory? And having begun from Moses and from all the prophets, He interpreted them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

SPIRITUAL WARFARE I

When we are told to put on the whole armour of God, one thing becomes clear instantly. This is the fact that there is a God. We cannot be talking of the armour of God if there is no God. Anyone who thinks that there is no God is a fool (Psalm 14:1). You have to pray that God would reveal Himself to you. The...More
