Faith in God’s Word

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Romans 10:17

Faith in God's Word
God wants all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth (1 Timothy 2:4). That is why He has the good news of salvation proclaimed and spread. On this subject, today's Bible verse presents an important principle: saving faith comes through the proclamation of the Word of God.

This is true for those who have been commissioned by the Lord Jesus to bring the gospel of grace to people. Surely they will ask themselves how they can reach people who hardly know anything from the Bible. The Lord can show them a point of contact so that they can start a conversation with people, get their attention or pass on an evangelistic flyer to them. With all the different possibilities, it remains important that ultimately the Word of God is placed before hearts and consciences. Only this Word has power to bring about conversion and lead to faith in the Lord Jesus.

The principle mentioned above is also addressed to all who are not yet at peace with God. Only by believing what He says in the Bible will they be saved. A decent or charitable lifestyle cannot erase their guilt before Him. That is why God calls them to confess their sins to Him and to believe in Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour. Everyone who accepts this message and acts accordingly receives forgiveness and eternal life.

Today's reading: Numbers 13:1-25 · Matthew 9:1-13

CAN SATAN RIGHTLY ACCUSE YOU?

Besides discouragement, another weapon Satan uses often against believers is their weaknesses. He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
