Lot, the big loser

Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain and pitched his tent even as far as Sodom.
Genesis 13:12

Lot, the big loser
When Abraham and Lot have to separate because of their large herds of cattle, Lot moves to the fertile Jordan plain. In that place is also the city of Sodom, where very wicked people live. Thus, the believing Lot deliberately exposes himself to the bad influence of the godless world, which eventually takes him over completely.

If we continue to read his story in the Bible, we see how Lot goes further and further downhill. In the end, he stands there as a big loser.

Because of his connection with the world, he loses his freedom. He is caught up in a battle and dragged away as a prisoner (Genesis 14:12).

Through the evil that Lot witnesses in the world, he loses his inner peace. He torments his righteous soul by what he sees and hears daily (2 Peter 2:8).

Due to the influence of the world, Lot loses his sense of good and evil, so that he is ready to hand over his daughters to violent men (Genesis 19:8).

Due to a lack of separation from the world, Lot loses all power of witness. His sons-in-law think his warning of impending judgment is a joke (Genesis 19:14).

We learn from Lot how destructive it is for our life of faith when we link ourselves up with the world. Therefore, "Do not love the world or the things in the world" (1 John 2:15); for, "Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God?" (James 4:4).

Today's reading: Numbers 16:25-17:15 · Matthew 11:10-19

Another thing that can divert your attention is opening your mouth prematurely to reveal your secret to sympathetic friends'. Never share a testimony until it is...More
