Martha, Martha!

For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet I am among you as the One who serves.
Luke 22:27

Martha, Martha!
Jesus Christ comes with his twelve disciples to Bethany - to a village about three kilometres from Jerusalem. A woman named Martha takes the group into her home. So many people to entertain at one time: what generous hospitality! But Mary, the sister of the hostess, sits down "at the feet of Jesus" and listens to His words while Martha has her hands full feeding the guests.

Eventually, the busy Martha has had enough and complains to Jesus, saying, "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me" (Luke 10:40).

The Lord Jesus' answer is surprising: "Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her" (v. 41-42).

Let us ask ourselves:

*Are we content with what God has given us to do? Aren't there many daily tasks that we can do for Him?

*Do we perhaps sometimes tend to compare ourselves with others whom we think have less trouble than we do - and become dissatisfied?

*Or are we possibly in danger of losing sight of the One who always deserves all our attention, because of all our activity?
There is nothing more important than listening to the Lord Jesus. If we regularly and joyfully seek His nearness and let His Word speak to us, we will be blessed and God can use us to bless those around us.

Today's reading: Numbers 22:1-21 · Matthew 13:24-30

FASTING IS NECESSARY

To relate with the Holy Spirit, you must be holy. You must also exercise a living faith, pray and fast. Some people will tell you that because had finished the work of salvation, there is no need to fast. To them, fasting is completely needless and is some form of self-inflicted punishment. But they forget that...More

REWARD FOR LABOUR

Jacob sojourned with Laban and laboured for him for several years. At first, his host was cheating him at every opportunity, and the years of his hard labour were almost in vain. Down the line, God had to intervene to enable Jacob eat the fruit of his labour. For a reader of this devotional, in every area that you...More

HOW PROPHETIC ARE YOUR NAMES?

The name you bear is very important because it serves as your identity and your future may be connected to it. The name a person bears is sometimes indicative of the experiences he or she will encounter in life. Take for instance Moses: this name means "drawn out of water"

Bible in one year:
