Andrew comes to Jesus

Again, the next day, John stood with two of his disciples. And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, Behold the Lamb of God! The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
John 1:35-37, 40

Andrew comes to Jesus
Simon Peter and Andrew were brothers in the flesh, but very different from one another. Peter, obviously the older one, set the tone and was often the first. Of Andrew, on the other hand, we read little; apparently he didn't speak much and rarely came to the fore. Peter preached to many people, so that once even 3,000 people were converted. Andrew, on the other hand, had individuals in mind. It was he who knew how to tell about a single child when an emergency arose (Acts 2:41; John 6:9).

Both were different - as we all are. Yet both received forgiveness of their sins and were saved - and both received assignments from their Lord Jesus Christ, although different ones.

Andrew had first been a disciple of John the Baptist. He had obeyed the injunction, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!" But then one day John saw Jesus passing by and called out: "Behold, the Lamb of God!" So Andrew left everything and followed Jesus, along with another disciple. Then when Jesus asked them, "What do you seek?", they said, "Rabbi, where are You staying?", and they stayed with Him all that day (Matthew 3:2; John 1:38).

Andrew was not looking for a doctrine, a religion, a new church or community - he was looking for a Person: Jesus Christ. And then he came to Him who alone could forgive sins, followed Him and stayed with Him. This path is still open to everyone today!

Today's reading: Numbers 26:35-65 · Matthew 15:1-11
