To run against and to leap over

For by You I can run against a troop, by my God I can leap over a wall.
Psalm 18:29

To run against and to leap over
David speaks in today’s verse from the Psalms about two possible obstacles on the path of faith:

There is a hostile crowd that opposes us in following the Lord. This doesn’t mean people, for our struggle is not against flesh and blood. Rather, it is about the world with its ideas that wants to keep us from a consistent life of faith. It can also be the devil who tries to convince us that we are missing out on something in life if we faithfully follow the Lord Jesus.
On the journey of faith, walls also appear that make it seemingly impossible to move forward. We are suddenly faced with impossible problems at work or in the family and don’t know how to go on. A serious illness can also be like a wall that stands in our way.
From David we also learn how to overcome such difficulties:

With our God, we are able to resist the pressures of the world and ward off the attacks of the devil. Trusting in His Word and power, we gain victory against these enemies.
With our God, we are also able to overcome difficult situations in life. This does not mean that we avoid problems or that we talk them down. No, it is about humbly accepting them from the hand of God and continuing on the path of faith with His help.

Today’s reading: Deuteronomy 32:34-52 · Ephesians 2:11-16

When You Have A Vision

I was not disobedient to the vision.' Acts 26:19 NIV

When God gives you a vision for your life, you need to know how to:

(1) Hold it. Your vision is governed by a time frame: If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place.' (Habakkuk 2:3 NLT) Some of us can...More

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (113)

He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves me, let him follow me; and where I am, there my servant will be also. If anyone serves me, him my Father will honour.
John 12:25.26.
