November 16, 2015 Today's reading: Numbers 22:1-21 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: 1 Peter 4:1-3 These verses speak of two different periods in people's lives. It is clear that between the two, there is a turning-point marking a particular decision. The "past lifetime" was a period apart from God, a life led according to the "will of man", when God's will was never consulted. The motto, "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die" was then valid. That was the situation when Noah built the ark and the great flood came, and also in Lot's day, when God made fire and brimstone rain down from heaven, submerging Sodom. People disregarded all God's warnings, refusing to serve Him. Then judgment came upon them (cf. . Repentance towards God means a total change of attitude and the decisive turning-point in one's life. Countless persons from all nations have followed this call, availing themselves of God's mercy in the age of grace that has lasted until now. They have confessed their sins to God and begun a new life of faith in the Lord Jesus. This is a life of fulfilment according to God's will and in happy fellowship with Him. |

But they forget that...More |
