Today's reading: Numbers 26:1-22

And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
John 11:44

Christ, the Victor over death (3)
Lazarus had been dead for four days. Corruption had already set in. Nevertheless, the Lord cried out with a powerful voice, "Lazarus, come forth!" and the miracle happened. The dead man left the tomb in the power of the new life granted him. So the Lord told those standing by to free him and let him go. The graveclothes should no longer hinder his freedom to move about.
Similarly, those who have been brought from spiritual death to eternal life through Jesus Christ often have habits, ideas and inclinations from the past. Since the life of faith is a learning process, it is helpful if they have Christians with experience around them who can show understanding and help them to cast off such "graveclothes". They need to learn what true Christian liberty is and to walk by faith with firm steps.
On a later occasion, we again read of Lazarus with his two sisters, Mary and Martha. They were all at that noteworthy supper in Bethany where Martha was serving. The fragrant savour of worship filled the house by means of the anointing oil that Mary poured over the feet of Jesus. Of Lazarus, it is simply said that he "sat at the table" with Jesus. He is a living illustration of fellowship, which cannot be separated from worship and Christian service.

BE TRULY ROOTED

You can overcome the attacks of the devil if you can simply obey God's Word. Before taking on the devil, be sure of your salvation because the salvation of many today is questionable. Many are pretenders and have really never answered the altar call for salvation at any time. At the time they should be answering...More

YOUR FIRST LOVE

As a Christian, your heart ought to be aglow with genuine love for Christ, unless you are not genuinely saved as a result of having not truly repented from your sins even though you have confessed Jesus. At the new birth experience, the Holy Spirit regenerates our spirit and fills it with deep and pure love for...More

Imitation or Genuine?

"All the prophets were prophesying before them. Then Zedekiah said, 'This is what the LORD says' All the prophets were prophesying this as well." - 1 Kings 22:10-12 NASB

Zedekiah understood what it meant to be a prophet. He knew the vocabulary and how to deliver prophecies. In similar ways, others...More
