You are the light of the world

You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Matthew 5:14

You are the light of the world
Jesus Christ, who shone into the world as the perfect light, returned to heaven after His death and resurrection. Now His disciples, who believe in Him and possess new life, are the light of the world. This is both a statement and a call.

People who have the light of life through faith in the Lord Jesus can be light bearers in the dark world and show people something of God. They have the mission to spread light about the living God through their words and behaviour.

As disciples of the Lord, we pray in the restaurant before eating, testifying to our faith in God who is the sustainer of life.
At work, we strive to do nothing wrong and also help an overworked colleague. In doing so, we show people that our God is just and merciful.
We use the opportunities the Lord gives us to introduce the love of God to our fellow human beings and invite them to believe in the Saviour.
Just as a city on a mountain is not hidden from view, so our lives as Christians should be a light that is seen in our surroundings. But we can only spread light to the extent that we stay close to the source of light. Without daily communion with our Lord, we are not able to bear witness to Him.

Today’s reading: 1 Samuel 23:1-13 · Philippians 2:1-11

NEGATIVE LIVING

Life comprises of positive and negative elements. As a matter of necessity, it is not good for someone to opt for negative living. The fact that Jesus Christ was destined to die for the sin of the whole world does not exonerate Judas Iscariot from the evil that led him to the idea of betraying the King of Glory....More
