No half measures

How long will you falter between two opinions?
1 Kings 18:21

No half measures
During a war between France and Italy, a man who lived right on the border suffered greatly from the fighting. His property was in the middle of the battle zone and was taken in turn by troops from both sides. For his own safety, he is said to have sewn himself a reversible cloak showing the French national colours on one side and the Italian on the other.

He kept himself informed about the changing course of the front and always wore his coat with the colours of the nation that currently had the upper hand in his area. He “faltered” between two opinions.

Even today, many trim their sails to the wind. On special holidays, it is good manners for them to be seen in church. In some way, they also believe in the existence of God. Maybe one day they will find themselves in a situation where they need his help. They want to keep this door open for themselves.

But in their circle of colleagues or at parties, it is not difficult for them to join in the celebrations. They can easily adapt to those who don’t believe in God and don’t ask about His will concerning their actions.

The living and true God, however, is not satisfied with half measures. He wants us to turn to Him with all our heart, and to live for Him with all our heart. That is why He calls us to “turn and live” (Ezekiel 18:32).

Today’s reading: 2 Samuel 14:1-33 · 2 Thessalonians 1:1-5

I can lie. Titus could too, and so could the Cretans. But God can not lie. I can deceive. But...More

When You Have A Vision

I was not disobedient to the vision.' Acts 26:19 NIV

When God gives you a vision for your life, you need to know how to:

(1) Hold it. Your vision is governed by a time frame: If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place.' (Habakkuk 2:3 NLT) Some of us can...More

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (113)

He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves me, let him follow me; and where I am, there my servant will be also. If anyone serves me, him my Father will honour.
John 12:25.26.
