The five finger prayer

Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men.
1 Timothy 2:1

The five finger prayer
Today’s Bible verse shows us how important prayer is for us as Christians. In emergency situations, we plead without ceasing to God and ask Him for help. But also in everyday life it is important for us to pray regularly and to present our requests to God again and again. In doing so, we should not only think of our own needs but also ask on behalf of others. How much reason we have to thank the Lord Jesus every day for the many proofs of His goodness!

Recently I came across the five-finger prayer that can support us in intercession:

When you fold your hands, the thumb is closest to you. So, when praying, start with those closest to you – your spouse, your children, your parents.
Next comes the index finger, which is a symbol of instruction. Pray for all who in some way instruct believers in the Word of God.
The middle finger is the biggest. It reminds you to pray for those who are above you – people in government, teachers or supervisors at work.
The fourth finger is usually the weakest. Pray for people who are sick and weak. In intercession, think of believers who are oppressed or have other problems.
Then comes the little finger. It points out how small you are before the great, almighty God. Ask Him to care for you, to help you and to keep you.

Today’s reading: 2 Samuel 21:1-11 · Philemon 13-25
