The name that saves

Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.
Acts 4:12

The name that saves
In 1885, the Frenchman Louis Pasteur used the newly discovered vaccine against rabies on a human for the first time. The successful treatment quickly made him well known throughout Europe. The Russian district of Smolensk also heard about this new kind of medicine. So, 19 farmers who had been bitten by a rabid wolf set off for Paris despite their injuries.

In their fur caps and with their bandages, they immediately attracted attention. Because they knew no French, they repeated only one word: “Pasteur, Pasteur!” So, they were taken to Louis Pasteur so that he could save them from death with his vaccine. 16 of the 19 patients were cured, but the infection had already progressed too far in the others. In gratitude for his help, the Russian Tsar donated a large sum of money, which was used to found the Pasteur Institute.

In another sense, the whole world is suffering from a terrible disease: sin. To be cured of it, there is only one remedy: personal faith in the Lord Jesus who died on the cross for the redemption of sinful people.

When we realise our lost condition, we only need to know the name of the Saviour and believe that He can save us. The Bible says: “Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13).

Today’s reading: 2 Samuel 21:12-22 · John 1:1-13

God has come to take you out of your current location in the miry clay to your promised land - a land flowing with milk and honey. This simply tells us that the God of Abraham, Isaac...More

TRAIN UP YOUR CHILD 1

One major undoing of modern civilized society is an abounding generation of untrained children. This trend did not just start, but has been on for some time now. The result is that many untrained children of few years back have become parents themselves. It is the multiplier effect of their lack of proper home...More

A LIBERAL HEART?

Read:
, God asked the widow to feed the prophet before taking care of herself. At the end of the day, what was not enough became more than enough. To what extent do you practice giving as an individual, family, church or nation?

Those who never give will continue to beg, if you desire to...More

Hebrews 11:24-28

Author Zora Neale Hurston wrote a book titled Moses, Man of the Mountain. Published in 1939, it retells the story of Moses and the Exodus. Hurston altered details of the story for her own purposes, weaving in allusions to African American history, folklore, and song. She reflected...More
