Heavenly orientation in everyday life

Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
Colossians 3:2

Heavenly orientation in everyday life
How is it possible to contemplate heavenly things while we are busy with earthly things in our daily lives? Surely, we cannot neglect our duties!

Certainly, we should do our work well, for the Lord has set us in the place where we are to live for Him. If we do our job faithfully and behave as a Christian should, we do everything according to the principles of God. Then, although we may be doing the most mundane duties, we are in touch with heaven. Whether we are doing household chores or are busy at work, we act as disciples of the Lord Jesus and want to honour Him.

In many situations where it is impossible to think of what is heavenly, we can still set our mind on things above and not on things on the earth. We do many things that unbelievers also do. Often the work looks exactly the same on the outside. Nevertheless, there is a big difference: people who have no relationship with God only seek their own honour and success. Christians who are focussed on what is heavenly seek the glory of the Lord and want to be His servants. They have the desire to do everything for Him. In this way, they relate the smallest trivialities of their life on earth to heaven.

Today’s reading: 1 Kings 1:22-37 · John 3:22-36

He simply studies an individual for a period of time and not long after, he identifies the fellow's weakness and capitalizes on it. Take for instance Peter. Satan discovered that Peter is a cowardly person-lacking in...More

DON'T KILL YOURSELF FOR NOTHING

Do hope you are learning from our meditations through Psalm 73. It pictures to us the reality of everyday living. I do hope you are realizing that after all there is no point envying the prosperous wicked. Do not kill yourself for nothing. You have your life to live. Do not be a puppet dancing the...More

Hudson Taylor...

John 19:30

The parents of Hudson Taylor (1832-1905), the well-known missionary in China, were believers. From their example, he noticed early in life how helpful prayer and the Bible are.
His parents' exemplary life impressed him, and he endeavoured to be as good a Christian as they were....More
