Have I not written to you excellent things of counsels and knowledge, that I may make you know the certainty of the words of truth?
Proverbs 22:20–21

In some countries, the rent index is the guideline for setting monthly rents. My grandfather used to always stretch a string between two stakes before pulling a furrow and sowing carrots. And today, my wife sometimes measures me against my neighbour when she reproaches me for the fact that our car needs to be washed again ... Today, we find it difficult to have a guideline, a directive, a generally applicable set of values. We don’t want to be controlled by others but to be our own master and decide for ourselves. We claim this for the questions of our life and our faith – as well as in the question of God.

But God does not want us to live according to any guideline. That is why He has given us His ‘guidebook’, the Bible. In it we find the “words of truth”, and through it we learn His thoughts and His will.

When we engage with God’s guidebook, we learn that it is exclusively for our benefit. “You … gave them just ordinances and true laws, good statutes and commandments,” believers once confessed before God (Nehemiah 9:13). And it is by these guidelines that God judges our lives. He determines what is a life worth living and how we can reach heaven. “This is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ” (1 John 3:23). There is still time and opportunity to change the guidebook for our lives. What prevents us from reading and obeying the Word of God? And why don’t we start today?

Today’s reading: 1 Kings 11:26-43 · John 9:1-12

UNCOVERING EVIL

The presence of the supernatural power of God in a church can take that church beyond limits.
It can also uproot the presence of evil in the midst of Gods children. In Acts 5, a couple were uprooted through this. If we are going to sanitise the church, we need the Holy Spirit. Just as we need Him to heal, save...More

And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son. Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing: For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; ...More

THE NON-LYING GOD (2)

In the hope of eternal life, which God, who cannot lie, promised before the ages of time, but has manifested in its own due season His word.
(Titus 1:2-3)

THE NON-LYING GOD (2)
I can lie. Titus could too, and so could the Cretans. But God can not lie. I can deceive. But...More
