A Bible verse can save lives!

Repent, and believe in the gospel.
Mark 1:15

A Bible verse can save lives!
Katja had become a believer many years ago. Then she became mentally ill. She could no longer believe that God had really forgiven her. One afternoon she got into her car and drove off – with no destination and no courage to live. She was confused, could no longer think clearly and wanted to end her life. As she drove, she passed a billboard. Written in oversized letters was the Bible verse: “Repent, and believe in the gospel”!

Katja read the Bible verse and it touched her heart. She abandoned her plan and drove home. Then she sought out a counsellor who encouraged her and prayed with her. Today she lives a joyful life. She is extremely grateful to be God’s child; she knows she is loved by Him.

Yes, God is still speaking today – sometimes loudly and sometimes quietly, sometimes His Word is “like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces”, and sometimes He pulls “with bands of love”. Sometimes He speaks through a sermon, sometimes through a Bible verse (as with Katja), and sometimes through a word, a look, or a touch (Jeremiah 23:29; Hosea 11:4; Acts 17:22–31).

But always, by whatever means, He wants to reach hearts, to change them, to hold people back from “the Pit”. His words are “spirit” and “life”. They are “words of … life” that speak concretely and personally to the human heart (Job 33:18; John 6:63; Acts 5:20).

Am I being reached by God’s Word? Do I realise that He is speaking to me – especially to me, and right now in my particular situation? He loves me and wants to save me, do good to me and have me with Him forever. How do I answer Him? And when will I answer Him?

Today’s reading: 1 Kings 17:7-24 · John 11:45-57

THE GREAT DELIVERER

God is great but He humbles Himself to the level of His children to deliver them. The one who will deliver you must be stronger than the enemy holding you captive. The reason He is able to deliver is because He is stronger than all your enemies put together. This is why in

NO FOOD FOR THE LAZY MAN

Laziness is not a Christian virtue in any way. Our Lord Jesus Christ made this clear by His lifestyle of hard work while here on earth. A lifestyle of laziness is outrightly rejected in Scriptures typified by today's Bible reading. It is amazing that some people are still expecting God to rain manna on earth! It does...More
