Thoughts on the Gospel of John (156)

He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.
John 16:14–15

Thoughts on the Gospel of John (156)
The Lord Jesus announces to the disciples the coming of the Holy Spirit and details of His activity. Firstly, the Holy Spirit would guide them into all truth and, secondly, He would proclaim what was coming. He would also glorify Jesus, who had been highly dishonoured by the world. The Holy Spirit fulfils this task by proclaiming to us all that concerns the Son of God and His glory in heaven, as well as the believers’ union with Him.

Everything that God the Father possesses also belongs to His Son Jesus Christ. Let us not overlook the great implications of this statement. In two earlier passages we read that the Father has placed everything in the hand of His Son (ch. 3:35; 13:3). He will administer everything faithfully and fulfil all the promises of God. But our verse goes even further. All things of the Father have always been His as well, and they are and they always will be. Whoever speaks in this way claims to be a divine person within the unity of the Godhead. And of this fact the New Testament leaves no doubt!

What a wonderful task the Holy Spirit undertakes! He conveys to us a blessing that is completely beyond our imagination and of which it is said elsewhere: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him. But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God” (1 Corinthians 2:9–11).

Today’s reading: 2 Kings 1:11-18 · John 16:1-11

LIFE IN ABUNDANCE 1

Under normal circumstances, no human being desires to be a nonentity. The various forces in the world however, are responsible for many people spending their entire life amounting to nothing and dwelling in the valley of not-well-to-do persons. The Almighty God Himself in making man did not intend for him to be a...More
