Debts

Here we are before You, in our guilt, though no one can stand before You because of this!
Ezra 9:15

Debts
Time and again, people fall into the debt trap. They can no longer repay the loans they took out for purchases because unexpected costs arise or their income becomes smaller. The interest and the repayment instalments now exceed their ability to pay. Debt repayment becomes impossible.

There is another kind of debt that we cannot pay off. This is not about money but about our responsibility before our Creator which we have not fulfilled. If we take a close look at our lives and judge them by the Bible, we will soon realise that we have not behaved as God expects us to.

We cannot erase the guilt that has arisen in the process. God must therefore condemn us to eternal punishment. But before He executes His sentence, He shows us a way out today: “Believe on the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31). The Saviour died on the cross and thus paid for the guilt of others so that God could forgive people’s sins on a just basis. Whoever admits their wrongdoing today and believes in Jesus Christ will be saved.

What redemption and what happiness when God absolves us of all guilt! The oppressive burden on our conscience is gone. God promises us: Your sins and your lawless deeds I will remember no more (Hebrews 10:17)!

Today’s reading: 2 Kings 2:15-25 · John 16:25-33

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
(Galatians 6:1-2)
