Bible reading in the family

From childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 3:15

Bible reading in the family
Timothy had a believing mother who introduced him to the Word of God in his childhood. His example shows us that Christian parents cannot start early enough to read the Bible to their children and tell them about the Saviour.

Even in Old Testament times, God had placed great emphasis on teaching children: “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up” (Deut. 6:6–7).

The way we introduce our children to the Word of God must be appropriate to their age. They should be able to understand what we read or tell them from the Bible. This requires that we choose passages that are easy to understand and we explain the biblical statements to them in a way that is appropriate for children. Doesn’t the Lord Jesus give us a good example in this? He spoke the word to the people “as they were able to hear it” (Mark 4:33).

What is important for us as adults when we read the Bible also applies to children: they should get to know the Lord Jesus. That is why the reports in the Gospels about His life on earth and His death on the cross are particularly suitable for devotions in the family.

Today’s reading: 2 Kings 10:12-27 · John 20:19-31

Every apartment or compartment with a lock has its key. It takes a key to open the gate of a house and several keys to enter the house its rooms. If you have fridge, car or wardrobe, you will equally have their keys. From the foregoing therefore, it is apparent that several good things with value have their...More
