Comfort from God

I have seen his ways, and will heal him; I will also lead him, and restore comforts to him and to his mourners. I create the fruit of the lips: Peace, peace to him who is far off and to him who is near, says the Lord.
Isaiah 57:18–19

Comfort from God
In today’s verse, the Lord speaks about the future of Israel and how He will meet believers from this nation in grace. What He says to them applies in a spiritual way to us as Christians as well. He also speaks to us to thoroughly comfort our hearts:

o In the world our spirit is defiled and our heart wounded. God sees it and knows how we feel. Through His Word He wants to restore and revive us in faith.
o The ways that are promoted in the world lead people astray. But God wants to guide us so that we do not lose our way but arrive safely at our destination. On His path we need not fear.
o Sometimes God has to lead us along difficult paths if He wants to form us in faith and bring us further. But in doing so, He shows us His consolations. Especially in times of distress, we experience how God is faithful to His word and makes His promises come true.
o God gives special comfort to those who mourn. The incarnate Son of God also lost a friend on earth through death. Therefore, He can fully sympathise with the loss of a loved one. He meets us as the resurrection and the life. Because He lives, His own will also live.
o God calls us to peace. In the midst of a world that longs for peace and cannot find it, He allows our hearts to rest in trusting in His love and omnipotence.

Today’s reading: 2 Kings 20:12-21 · 3 John 1-8

The Lord Jesus told His disciples that they would be given an understanding in "the mystery of the kingdom of God." He also spoke of another class of people to whom everything would be spoken in parables; these He described as, "them who are without." How solemn that God should...More

Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
(Galatians 6:1-2)
