A word to parents

And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
Luke 1:6

A word to parents
In today’s Bible passage, we are introduced to Zacharias and Elizabeth. They were the parents of John the Baptist. The first thing that stands out is that they were in agreement with each other in their marriage and were therefore able to fulfil their task as parents together.

What is said of Zacharias and Elizabeth is a prerequisite for the upbringing of children.

1. They were righteous before God. This is not about the fact that redeemed people are justified by God through faith in the Lord Jesus. No, it is about righteous behaviour in daily life. We can begin living like this as young believers. Do we really want to do what God approves in our everyday life? If we learn to live righteously with the help of the Lord, we can later be a good example for our children. They pay more attention to what we do than to what we say to them anyway.
2. They walked blamelessly in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord. It is only possible to live according to all the commandments of the Lord if we know God’s Word and put it into practice in our lives. We can also start doing this early so that we have a foundation for our faith. Then we as parents will be able to explain the statements of the Bible to our children and show them how they are put into practice. It is a blessing for children when the Word of God has a central place in the family.

Today’s reading: Ezekiel 14:1-11 · Psalms 119:65-80

However, there was only one person, spiritually speaking, who was a true Nazarite, and that was our Lord Jesus. He shows us that it is not a negative thing to be separated from the world but rather a...More

Adam found an excuse:

Jeremiah 17:9

In a discussion on the above text with some young people, the question was asked: how are we to understand the word "deceitful" here? After some consideration they reached this conclusion: deceitful means that the heart finds an excuse for everything. This seems a very apt...More
