Don’t follow him!

Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.

Their sorrows shall be multiplied who hasten after another god.

John 6:68; Psalm 16:4

Don’t follow him!
Do you know the legend of the flute player who freed the town of Hamelin from the plague of rats? When he didn’t receive the promised reward, he lured the children out of the town with the mysterious fascination of his flute music and kidnapped them to a far away place.

Like this Pied Piper of Hamelin, God’s adversary the devil does the same. He knows how to influence people, and he starts with children. A look at literature and media aimed at children sometimes shows these satanic influences abundantly clearly. The seduction to commit evil with all its terrible effects is great in every age group. Satan even managed to lure the first human couple away from God with his “flute sounds”. They didn’t become happy as a result. On the contrary, they and their descendants got to know “sorrows multiplied” as a result of sin.

This is what happened to Odysseus and his companions, as a well-known legend tells. They came to a place where the infamous sirens lured the mariners to their doom with their beguiling song. The hero ordered his men to plug their ears with wax and he had himself tied to the mast of the ship. Even in ancient times, people knew about the power of seduction and its devastating consequences.

The Pied Piper and the Sirens are only legendary figures. In contrast, the devil and his seductive influence have been a reality at all times. It is therefore necessary to be vigilant. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, on the other hand, shows us the way to true, eternal life. Whoever follows Him will be brought safely “home” to eternal life.

Today’s reading: Ezekiel 19:1-14 · Psalms 120:1-7

. He learned that God can only use subjection of Himself, weakness in self, and dependence upon Him only.
However, there was only one person, spiritually speaking, who was a true Nazarite, and that was our Lord Jesus. He shows us that it is not a negative thing to be separated from the world but rather a...More

Adam found an excuse:

Jeremiah 17:9

In a discussion on the above text with some young people, the question was asked: how are we to understand the word "deceitful" here? After some consideration they reached this conclusion: deceitful means that the heart finds an excuse for everything. This seems a very apt...More
