December 16, 2015 Today's reading: Amos 4 Then the king said unto me, For what dost thou make request? So I prayed to the God of heaven. And I said unto the king, If it please the king, and if thy servant have found favour in thy sight, that thou wouldest send me unto Judah, unto the city of my fathers' sepulchres, that I may build it. Nehemiah 2:4-5 A hurried, secret prayer Nehemiah had received reports of the Land of Judah at the court of the king of Persia. Jerusalem still lay waste. Nehemiah brought the trouble he felt before "the God of heaven". He loved Jerusalem with all his heart and wished to rebuild the city of God. But as the king's cupbearer, he needed the monarch's permission and authority. After a period of fasting and prayer, Nehemiah suddenly had the opportunity to mention the matter before that great king Artaxerxes. Yet strangely enough, in the midst of the conservation, he prayed to the God of heaven. It can only have been a very brief prayer, for the conservation continued immediately. It was simply a hurried, secret prayer that reveals how conscious Nehemiah was to his dependence on God and His guidance and help. The king will have noticed nothing of the prayer but God heard it, as Nehemiah was well aware: so he took courage and felt free to tell the king of his concern. He then saw how God directed the king's heart, so that his request was granted. The practice of praying regularly is good and necessary, in the morning and evening or even three times a day, as Daniel did (cf. )If we seek God's presence and His guidance for our life, then we shall also feel free to pray quickly and briefly in emergencies and other particular circumstances, and like Nehemiah we shall experience encouragement from our God and Father. |

Open Heavens for Thursday, December 5, 2013 by Pastor E.A Adeboye UNCOVERING EVIL The presence of the supernatural power of God in a church can take that church beyond limits. It can also uproot the presence of evil in the midst of Gods children. In Acts 5, a couple were uprooted through this. If we are going to sanitise the church, we need the Holy Spirit. Just as we need Him to heal, save...More |
