The Christian hope

For we were saved in this hope.
Romans 8:24

The Christian hope
We walk the journey of faith with the hope in our hearts that we will soon be with our Saviour in heaven. He has promised us: “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:3). This joyful expectation is based on the “God of hope” (Romans 15:13), who is almighty and will carry out everything according to His plan. Therefore, our hope is firm and sure. It is described in the Bible with various characteristics:

We possess a living hope (1 Peter 1:3). It centres on Jesus Christ, who died on the cross for our eternal salvation, and rose from the dead on the third day.
Through grace we have a good hope (2 Thessalonians 2:16). It contains only good things for us. Though we don’t deserve it, Christ will usher us into the glory of heaven.
We await the blessed hope of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ (Titus 2:13). Its fulfilment will leave nothing to be desired in our hearts and make us eternally happy.
Compared to the people of Israel, we have a better hope (Hebrews 7:19). This hope does not refer to an earthly kingdom but concerns eternity in heaven. There we will see the Lord Jesus face to face.

Today’s reading: Ezekiel 35:1-36:15 · Psalms 136:1-12
