Believe in Me!

Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.
John 14:1

Believe in Me!
The Lord Jesus had made known to His disciples that Judas would betray Him and Peter would deny Him. He had also informed them of His return to heaven. The exposure of the betrayer, the announcement of such a denial, and especially the great loss caused by the departure of their Master, all weighed heavily on the disciples’ minds. The impending events cast dark shadows on their hearts, so that they were grieved and confused.

Understandingly, Jesus Christ addressed their distress: “Let not your heart be troubled”. Who else but the Lord could have uttered such kind words at such a serious moment! They believed in God whom they had never seen. Because Christ was about to return to heaven, this now applied equally to Him: “Believe also in Me”! They would no longer see Him, yet they would still remain united to Him in faith. Thus, as a man in heavenly glory, He became their source of strength and the inner support of their hearts.

These words apply to us as well. When our hearts are shaken by events and experiences, we can look to the Lord Jesus in faith and find real comfort in Him. On earth everything may fail us, the world may tempt us, the failures of believers may trouble us – but Christ in glory remains the never-ending source of our faith.

Today’s reading: Ezekiel 40:28-49 · Psalms 141:1-10

Two discouraged disciples were reasoning among themselves...

Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory? And having begun from Moses and from all the prophets, He interpreted them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

SPIRITUAL WARFARE I

When we are told to put on the whole armour of God, one thing becomes clear instantly. This is the fact that there is a God. We cannot be talking of the armour of God if there is no God. Anyone who thinks that there is no God is a fool (Psalm 14:1). You have to pray that God would reveal Himself to you. The...More
