The child in the manger

And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.
Luke 2:12

The child in the manger
On the night in which Jesus was born in Bethlehem, some shepherds were watching over their sheep in the field. An angel came to them and told them of the Saviour’s birth. They would find Him as a newborn baby – wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger. Immediately the shepherds set out to see the child.

This child in the manger was God’s Son who had become man to reveal divine grace on earth. There was no room for Him in the inn, for the world wanted neither God nor His grace. But individual people – like the shepherds – recognised Jesus Christ as the Son of God and Saviour. They opened their hearts to Him and believed in Him.

When Christianity celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ at Christmas, each of us should ask ourselves how we personally relate to Him. For us, is He only a historical personality who has shaped our Christian countries for a long time? Or do we believe that this child in the manger is the Saviour who came to earth and gave His life for us on the cross?

He actually came to us to help us. If we are those who look ahead into the new year without any prospect, He wants to give us a firm hope for a happy life with God. When we groan under the burden of our guilt, He is ready to remove it from us and give us inner peace.

Today’s reading: Ezekiel 44:1-14 · Psalms 145:10-21

GOD PROMOTES

When God set out to deliver the children of Israel from Egypt, it was to take them out of captivity and bondage and to lift them up. God has come to take you out of your current location in the miry clay to your promised land - a land flowing with milk and honey. This simply tells us that the God of Abraham, Isaac...More

TRAIN UP YOUR CHILD 1

One major undoing of modern civilized society is an abounding generation of untrained children. This trend did not just start, but has been on for some time now. The result is that many untrained children of few years back have become parents themselves. It is the multiplier effect of their lack of proper home...More

A LIBERAL HEART?

Read:
, God asked the widow to feed the prophet before taking care of herself. At the end of the day, what was not enough became more than enough. To what extent do you practice giving as an individual, family, church or nation?

Those who never give will continue to beg, if you desire to...More

Hebrews 11:24-28

Author Zora Neale Hurston wrote a book titled Moses, Man of the Mountain. Published in 1939, it retells the story of Moses and the Exodus. Hurston altered details of the story for her own purposes, weaving in allusions to African American history, folklore, and song. She reflected...More
