The new man

You put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
Ephesians 4:24

The new man
When man realises his sinful, lost condition and believes in the Saviour Jesus Christ, he is born again. This work of God makes him a new man who stands in a perfect position before God. In 2 Corinthians 5:17 it says about this: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” How happy someone who has experienced this change can be! Sin still remains in him but he possesses a new life.

From today’s verse, we learn that the new man we put on at conversion is created after God. So, he conforms to God because he exhibits characteristics that please Him. Two characteristics are mentioned:

o Righteousness: As new people we are able to live righteously. In the everyday relationships we find ourselves in, we can do what is right before God. From biblical instructions and the example of the Lord Jesus, we learn what righteous behaviour towards our fellow human beings looks like in daily life.
o Holiness: As new people we can say no to sin and live for God. This is practical holiness. It is not about pious appearances, but a genuine desire in our hearts to turn away from evil and honour God through our behaviour. In this, too, Jesus Christ is the best example for us in His life on earth.

Today’s reading: Amos 3:1-15 · Proverbs 23:1-12

LIFE IN ABUNDANCE 1

Under normal circumstances, no human being desires to be a nonentity. The various forces in the world however, are responsible for many people spending their entire life amounting to nothing and dwelling in the valley of not-well-to-do persons. The Almighty God Himself in making man did not intend for him to be a...More
