Australia’s “magic mountain” lures many...

There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.
Proverbs 14:12

Australia’s “magic mountain” lures many thousands to the relentlessly hot desert. Like the hump of a whale, it arches out of the plain, shimmering reddish-purple at the beginning of the evening’s colour show, then changing to a brownish hue before presenting itself in pale sandstone colours as dusk sets in. Called Uluru by the indigenous people of Australia, it was formerly known as Ayers Rock.

Tourists used to not only admire this sandstone colossus but also wanted to climb it. Sturdy footwear was required – and one litre of water per person per hour! And even if the path seemed effortless for the first few metres, Uluru had its pitfalls. This is demonstrated by the memorial plaques for the victims at the foot of the mountain. Their fate is touching. They had certainly looked forward to this tour and had invested money and effort into it. But what was the use of the colourful travel brochure or the full travel wallet? What good was it that the slippery mountain sides were secured by chains? These people left the safe path to follow their own ideas, which then led them to ruin.

There are warning and admonition signs on our journey of life as well. Our Bible verse today is one of them. People who see the meaning of their lives in pleasure and self-fulfilment, without giving any thought to God, are in fact on wrong paths that end in eternal death.

However, God’s desire is that we might live. Therefore, we read in the Bible about God’s way which enables us to live a meaningful life and safely reach our destination. Those who follow Him and entrust themselves to Jesus are on the safe side. There they experience God’s care, comfort and strength. Although there are also steep inclines on this path, the believer will reach the heavenly goal because the Lord Jesus guarantees it.

Today’s reading: Micah 5:1-15 · Proverbs 29:1-9

OFFENDED IN CHRIST?

The Christian race must be run with lots of patience or else it will be bungled midway. If you are inpatient with Gods timing, you will not only get into trouble but may not be able to finish the race. A good number of backsliders derailed from their heavenly track because of impatience. In Matthew 11:6 Jesus...More

Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre. And...

Jehovah appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre. And he sat at the tent-door in the heat of the day. And he lifted up his eyes and saw, and behold, three men standing near him.
(Genesis 18:1)

The spiritual elevation of Abraham in Genesis 18 and 19 is something very peculiar. He seems...More

THE HOLY SPIRIT

It is one thing to receive the anointing and another to keep growing on it. There are people who had the anointing, but today, everything has virtually ebbed out. It is possible to connect with the Holy Spirit and to continue to flow in the power of the anointing even at increasing levels. If this is your desire,...More

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More
