When Sarah came into the living...

For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
1 Peter 2:25

When Sarah came into the living room, her father’s friend who was visiting them was sitting there, reading his Bible. Sarah was about to leave the room again quietly when he addressed her with, “I’d like to ask you something, Sarah. Is Jesus your Saviour, your Redeemer?” Sarah was quite surprised and hesitated at first. After a deep breath, she replied, “I wish I could say that about myself.”

“Then I would like to suggest that you read the 53rd chapter of the prophet Isaiah as if it were written specifically for you. Would you like to do that?” The friend handed Sarah his Bible, and she began to read aloud:

“Surely He has borne my griefs and carried my sorrows. Yet I esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.”

Visibly moved, she continued, “But He was wounded for my transgressions, He was bruised for my iniquities; the chastisement for my peace was upon Him, and by His stripes I am healed. Like a sheep I have gone astray; I have turned to my own way; and the Lord has laid on Him my iniquity.”

Deeply impressed, Sarah closed the Bible and exclaimed, “Yes, now I understand. Jesus did all this for me!”

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,When sorrows like sea billows roll;Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say,It is well, it is well with my soul.My sin, oh the bliss of this glorious thought!My sin, not in part but the whole,Is nailed to His cross, and I bear it no more,Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, O my soul!
