Our doubts – God’s response

Why do you say …: My way is hidden from the Lord, and my just claim is passed over by my God?
Isaiah 40:27

Our doubts – God’s response
In today’s Bible passage, God reveals the thoughts that creep into our hearts when difficult situations enter our lives: “My way is hidden from the Lord, and my just claim is passed over by my God.” In other words, we are saying, “God isn’t interested in my problems and isn’t helping me in my need.” As a result, we may feel abandoned by Him.

God first addresses such doubting thoughts in Isaiah 40:28 by asking two questions: “Have you not known? Have you not heard?” They remind us that although He has spoken, we have clearly not been listening. Through these questions He speaks to us again. Are we willing to listen to Him? He is still speaking to us today through the Bible.

After God has awakened our willingness to listen to Him, He introduces Himself: “The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable.” Thus, in a time of distress, He draws our attention to Himself so that we may believe and trust in Him.

Although He is an eternal God, He has a personal relationship with us who live in space and time. As Creator, He cares about us and our well-being. He never grows tired in His care for us. His wisdom guides every circumstance in our lives.

Isn’t He worthy of our trust?

Today’s reading: Genesis 1:1-19 · Proverbs 31:1-9

However, there was only one person, spiritually speaking, who was a true Nazarite, and that was our Lord Jesus. He shows us that it is not a negative thing to be separated from the world but rather a...More

Adam found an excuse:

Jeremiah 17:9

In a discussion on the above text with some young people, the question was asked: how are we to understand the word "deceitful" here? After some consideration they reached this conclusion: deceitful means that the heart finds an excuse for everything. This seems a very apt...More
