Died and risen

The Lord is risen indeed.
Luke 24:34

Died and risen
The resurrection of the Lord Jesus is one of the fundamental facts of the Christian faith. Although it was questioned early on, it was shown to be true by many proofs. After His resurrection, Jesus Christ appeared to His disciples several times. They were able to talk to Him, touch Him and watch Him eat. Through this they came to the firm conviction that He was alive.

On one occasion, the risen Lord showed Himself to more than 500 believers at once. Most of them were still alive when the Apostle Paul wrote the first epistle to the Corinthians, showing that Jesus Christ was truly risen. They were thus able to confirm the truth of his words (1 Corinthians 15:6).

Why is it so important for us to know that Jesus Christ was raised from the dead? Because God thereby testified that the death of the Saviour is completely sufficient for the salvation of lost sinners. The Apostle Paul puts it this way: We “believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, who was delivered up because of our offences, and was raised because of our justification” (Romans 4:24–25).

Jesus Christ laid down His life so that guilty people might be justified on the basis of faith in Him. Through His resurrection, God provided clear evidence that He accepts everyone who trusts in the redemptive work of His Son.

Today’s reading: Genesis 11:27-12:8 · 2 Peter 1:8-11
