Children and sons of God

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.

Romans 8:14, 16

Children and sons of God
Through faith in the Lord Jesus, we have become children and sons of God. Both relate to our personal relationship with our God and Father but contain a special blessing.

– As a result of the new birth that the Holy Spirit worked in us at conversion, we have received eternal life. Now we are children of God and know Him as our Father. As a result, we know we are loved by Him: “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!” (1 John 3:1). The Father’s love awakens in us the confidence to come to Him with all our joys and sorrows. The Lord Jesus encourages us to do so with the words, “Whatever you ask the Father in My name, He will give you” (John 16:23).

– At conversion, God also adopted us as His sons by sealing us with the Holy Spirit. Because we are sons of God and the Spirit dwells within us, we are able to understand the thoughts of our heavenly Father. He opens His heart to us to show us what is precious and important to Him: it is His beloved Son on whom His gaze rests with pleasure. How pleased the Father is when He can have fellowship with us about His Son Jesus Christ! What a privilege to share with the Father our joy in the Lord Jesus!

Today’s reading: Genesis 26:1-17 · Psalms 10:12-18

HOW PERSUADED?

In 2 Timothy 4:10, Demas - a co-labourer with Paul was floored by his love for the world. He became a victim of comfort. Today, many people are also becoming prayerless and shifting their or trust from God to uncertain riches. They are now tending towards the belief that money can fix everything. If you are in such...More

A LESSON FROM GOLIATH

At the first sight of David, Goliath despised him. He was amazed that the children of Israel could find no other man to fight him than a young boy. As if that was not enough, Goliath did not see any conventional weapon of war on David. So he asked, "Am I a dog?" The first lesson we have to learn from this story as...More

Who am Ithat you have brought me this far?' 2 Samuel 7:18 (NIV 2011 Edition)
A MEMBER of parliament took his little daughter to visit Westminster Abbey. As she stood looking up at its magnificent columns, her father asked, What do you think, sweetheart?' With childlike candour she replied, I was...More

Forgive And Move On (2)

Anyone who starts ploughing and keeps looking back isn't worth a thing to God's Kingdom!' Luke 9:62 CEV

If you're wise, you'll do four things:

(1) Focus on the road ahead. By looking in the rear-view mirror instead of what's up ahead, you'll end up in a ditch. Focus on the fact you've...More
