In the race of faith

Let your eyes look straight ahead, and your eyelids look right before you. Ponder the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established. Do not turn to the right or the left; remove your foot from evil.
Proverbs 4:25–27

In the race of faith
In a race, it is wise to keep our eyes on the goal. As believers we run towards the Lord Jesus who is in heaven at the right hand of God. He is our goal (Philippians 3:13–14). Anything that distracts our attention from Him hinders us from running towards Him. As we keep our eyes on Christ, we need to take care of the path our feet take. There is only one safe way for us – the straight path that leads directly to Him.

If we look to one side, we will find what appeals to our intellects. Satan wants us to believe that we would gain wisdom by disobeying God’s Word – as he once did with Eve. What he offers us seems reasonable and justified. Yet many have strayed from the path of faith through these intellectual temptations. Let us be vigilant and not turn in that direction!

On the other side of the path, the enemy presents us with the pleasures of life. He wants to make all that the world considers entertaining and exhilarating appealing to us. We must consciously reject these temptations as well, because they lead us down a path of sin. Let us not look in that direction so we will not be seduced by the lust of the eyes!

Both sinful temptations and intellectual temptations are a danger to us in the path of faith.

Today’s reading: Genesis 41:1-13 · Psalms 25:12-22

HAZARDING LIVES FOR MISSIONS

Within the space of a few years after the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, the gospel about Him had reached Rome, Alexandria, Antioch and all the great cities in Europe, Africa and Asia. The gospel had made great inroads into the aristocracy and among intellectuals, and had already changed the lives...More
