Go to Joseph

So when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread. Then Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, Go to Joseph; whatever he says to you, do.
Genesis 41:55

Go to Joseph
On earth there have been and still are many difficulties that trouble us. Some problems are not our own fault. With others, we have to admit that we personally caused them or are at least partly responsible for them.

This was the case in Egypt in the time of Joseph. A severe famine plagued the land. The people had nothing to eat and in their distress called on the government for help. Pharaoh – the ruler of Egypt at that time – gave them an impressive answer. It was short and simple: “Go to Joseph; whatever he says to you, do”! Why was Joseph able to help? Because he had built up a large stockpile of food during the good, bountiful years that preceded the famine.

Joseph is a figure of Jesus Christ. When we are find ourselves in problems today that are overwhelming and that we cannot solve, the call to us is: “Go to the Lord Jesus!” “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

The Lord Jesus has a solution to our problems. He wants to be our Saviour and Helper! For us, too, it means: “Do what He tells you!” If we follow what He instructs us to do in the Bible, we will find the solution for our life here and for eternity.

Today’s reading: Daniel 4:1-12 · Psalms 40:1-9

Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing: For, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; ...More

What shall the baptized for the dead do if those that are baptized rise not at all? Why also are they baptized for them?
(1 Corinthians 15:29)

Who are "the dead," and who are those "baptized for the dead"? The next verse gives an important hint: "Why do we also endanger ourselves every...More

KEEP YOURSELF HUMBLE

Several years ago, I was on a visit to a parish of our church in Ilesha (a town in southwest Nigeria) on the same day that a Bible Study was to take place. Because I wanted to be blessed, I sat down in the congregation waiting for the Bible study teacher to commence the lesson for the day. However, an overzealous...More
