An experience on a car ferry occupies...

My soul melts from heaviness; strengthen me according to Your word.
Psalm 119:28

An experience on a car ferry occupies my thoughts for a long time. I stand on the less-frequented upper deck, enjoying the fresh sea air, the wind, the calmness and the view. A few metres away from me stands a lady, appearing to do the same. Only after some time, I notice that it is not a head cold troubling her but rather that she is crying. Her pain must be very deep, because she continues to weep quietly for a long time, avoiding attracting attention. As a stranger, I don’t want to tactlessly address her, so the only thing I can do at this moment is to silently pray for her to God who knows this woman and understands her pain. This God is also the God of comfort, who is able to comfort us in every situation of life.

As I write down this experience that made me so thoughtful, I think of you, dear reader. If my often insensitive heart was so moved by the weeping of this unknown woman, how much more is the all-knowing God feeling with you right now. He knows your distress. He knows your pain. And not only that, but He feels deeply with you. It is said of Him, “In all their affliction He was afflicted, and the Angel of His presence saved them; In His love and in His pity He redeemed them; and He bore them and carried them all the days of old” (Isaiah 63:9).

What a tremendous comfort there is in knowing that God knows and understands us best. In your current life circumstances, I sincerely wish you God’s support and comfort.

Lay everything before Him in prayer! Read the Bible to encounter the living God who loves you and has only good things in mind for you. May God comfort you!

Today’s reading: Daniel 5:1-12 · Psalms 41:10-13

YOU CAN BE HIS WITNESS

BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY

Yesterday we learnt it is not right for us to get angry with God or to take offence against Him, even if we experience the deferment of our hopes. The example of John the Baptist who earlier acknowledged Jesus as the Messiah, but later doubted Him because of his painful experience of incarceration is a warning...More

...when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem...
Luke 2:45

We might as well face it, strife has even infiltrated our church life. It is true enough that the Church is now the Church militant. But, as such, its warfare ought to be that of dedication to revealed truth and divine...More
